The muskellunge, or muskie, is known as the largest, meanest, and most unpredictable sport fish in the Kawarthas. The long sloping snout, needle-like teeth, and wide-set penetrating eyes symbolize the aggressiveness, strength and predatory nature of the muskie.

Upper half of gill cover and cheek is scaled. Dusky, vertical banding on some fish. Average size caught in the Kawarthas is 32-36 inches or 10 pounds. Common baits used are large plugs, spoons, bucktail spinners, large live bait (suckers).
