As the water gets colder, the bass go back to shallower water and start their fall feeding frenzy. Experimenting with depth is also a good thing. I like to go down to about 6 inches off the bottom too.

The largemouth bass is adaptable to a large variety of habitats, from those suitable for smallmouth to sloughs and sluggish waters. It is typical of shallow, mud bottomed lakes and slow moving streams which contain an abundance of aquatic vegetation.
Upper jaw extends beyond back of eye, horizontal strip on side. Average size in the Kawarthas is 14 inches or 1 1/2 pounds. Common baits used are minnows, spoons, plugs, rubber worms or spinner baits.

Today’s lures are insanely priced. 5 bucks for a slab of metal, 20 bucks for a plastic lure from Japan, 8 bucks for 10 plastic looking logs, 15 bucks for plastic sticks that are soaked in “real fish enzymes”. When does it end?
